Walking along the streets of Sukhumvit Road one afternoon, I was pleasantly amazed at how developed and new everything now looks. Gone are the days of a façade of plush veneered hotels, cheap backstreet hotels and other unmentionable type establishments. The slum type hotels have moved out, instead are plush new offices and hotels fit for kings or Tai-Pans.
I remember my first business trip to Thailand quite a few centuries ago, dusty rooms with noisy old inefficient air-conditioning units. Fans caked with dust and carpets like concrete and as dirty as. And the sex through the walls…After being in a meeting in such and such company in the heart of Bangkok, you’d literally dread the end of the day and the time you’d have to return to your hotel. In those days if you weren’t staying at the Oriental or the Shangrila you’d just suffer and long to return home. Thankfully those days are long gone, especially if you stick to the Sukhumvit and Asoke areas of Bangkok.
For the business hotel search there are a few things you should consider before you go to online booking, firstly your budget. You want to remain in the main areas like Sukhumvit so it won’t be cheap but it will be reasonable. Whether you are organizing a hotel conference or simply need somewhere to stay and relax, these areas have some of the best hotels on offer.
When hosting meetings, it is of paramount importance to consider location, accessibility, facilities and services. Staying at hotels which are away from good public transport hubs, or one that does not have good facilities would not only make things uncomfortable for your clients, but may cause a negative image effect.
Your host hotel should ideally be set back away from the main bustle of Bangkok yet still near enough to the CBD. Access to and from the international and domestic airports is also needed. Access to the Thai tourist attractions should not be discounted either. Business people are always in need of a change of scenery even if it’s just for a few hours. Without these pick-me-up type rests they couldn’t work as efficiently.
Business facilities in the hotel
Looking at the hotel facilities, it’s time to consider your guests’ needs in regards to hotel facilities. Check the following: Can the hotel offer a variety of rooms from superior standard to high and deluxe? Does the hotel have a good reputation for staff efficiency and service? Is the food good? Are the hotel suites and conference rooms fully equipped with all the necessary tools to allow for meetings including high speed internet ports? One way to find out is to do simple web searches for the name of the hotel and find reviews.
